Role Model
Almost in every step of my life, there is a role model. Idol? I prefer to call it role model. I define role model as a person who walks in front of me, a person to be followed. A role model is like a guide for me. His/her actions are my guidelines to do so. A role model can be either a man or a woman. This day, my role model is still the same person. A person who I met in an English course three years ago.
He was an eighth semester student of a faculty in UGM. As a second semester student I just amazed with him. He was a cool and charming boy at that time. Since I knew that he was also a smart and humble person, I decided to chose him as a role model for me to be an extraordinary student in my college life. I started to observe, identify, and analyze his achievements. What made him cool? How could he be that charming? I studied it. After I got the key points, I started to copy his actions.
As a humble and sociable student, he had a lot of friends. He was very active and famous enough in his faculty. Since I knew that he was a head of department in his organization, I was inspired to do the same. I did what he did, but it didn't mean that every actions that I took were because of him. No. I was just learning by his experiences.
Honestly, he had led me indirectly. We had never made a real friendship. We didn't really know each other. Trust me, he might forget that he ever had an English course classmate named me. Even, he didn't know my name. Maybe. I am still following him on instragram although I changed my account last year, I found him. I can see how he grows now. How can he develop his career.. He is the same role model for me. The one who inspires me a lot.
If Allah allows us to meet each other, and to know... if I can, I really wanna thanks him for inspiring me these past three years.
Not only that boy, but also a friend of me had been my role model when I was in the second grade of SHS. I was not a dilligent student since I graduated from elementary school. Maybe after I was accepted in one of the best JHS in my town so I thought that I needed not to fight anymore. I was still the same lazy student until I reached the second grade of SHS, the first semester exactly. At that time, so many incidents that made me so much worried. I felt stupid, left behind, and those nagative feelings. Suddenly, I remembered one of my dilligent friend. He was a super smart boy in my JHS class. Next, you can guess what I do then? Yess! I was trying to copy him, to imitate him, and I did it succesfully.
It was like a super power that pushed me to slid like a rocket. From 9th rank, I went smoothly to the 2nd rank. That was amazing, wasn't that?
Do you know which part of these stories that I want to undeline? It is never wrong to have a role model. It is not a mistake to be inspired, to copy, to duplicate someone. How can it be a mistake if it can bring you to the better situation? Even I will say, "Have a role mode who can guide you, inspire you. A role model who can encourage you either directly or indirectly."
A role model can be whoever. Everybody can be your role model. As long as he/she is good, it's okay to follow him/her. Don't be ashamed to be amazed by somebody. It's natural. All you need is just let it flow and get ready to be surprised of what version of new you after those processes.
